Morigenos at Mediterranean Coast Week

From 23 September to 1 October 2016 Mediterranean Coast and EU Marco-regional Strategies Week will take place at the Slovenian coast. Numerous events are being organized by the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Government office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, The Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation, and many local and regional stakeholders, including Morigenos.

Morigenos will organize two movie nights in Art Cinema Odeon in Izola. On Tuesday, 27 September 2016 at 21.00 you can join us for a documentary Plastik Fantastik. After the movie, the author Uroš Robič, will discuss the issue of marine litter. On Thursday, 29 September 2016 at 21.00 we will be showing the award-winning documentary The Cove, followed by a discussion with Morigenos researchers.

From 23 to 30 September 2016, Art Cinema Odeon will also host the photographic and educational exhibition about dolphins in the Gulf of Trieste.

The Post of Slovenia has positively responded to Morigenos’ initiative to publish stamps with motives of whales and dolphins occurring in the northern Adriatic Sea. In collaboration with illustrator Matjaž Učakar 4 new stamps portraying the bottlenose dolphin, short-beaked common dolphin, striped dolphin and fin whale were produced. A special event presenting the stamps will be held on Thursday, 29 September 2016 at 18.00 in Strunjan (Slovenia), at hotel Laguna. Nature Park Strunjan will also present a stamp with the motive of the Strunjan cliff.

Under the auspices of the Mediterranean Coast and EU Marco-regional Strategies Week, a two day Conference on connecting macro-regions and protected areas will take place in Strunjan on 29 and 30 of September 2016. At the conference, Tilen Genov from Morigenos will give a talk on connecting non-governmental organisations and managers of marine protected areas.
