International Congress on Conservation Biology in France

This week Montpellier (France) is hosting the International Congress on Conservation Biology, attended by more than 2000 conservation biologists from over 100 countries. One of them is Tilen Genov from Morigenos, presenting two contributions. He gave a talk on how complex social structure of northern Adriatic dolphins may influence their conservation. In the second contribution he presented the impacts of aquaculture on Chilean dolphins (Cephalorhynchus eutropia), a small dolphin species endemic to Chile.

Mednarodni kongres varstvene biologije v Franciji

The heat doesn’t stop us

At the end of July we successfully completed the third research course in collaboration between Morigenos and Earthwatch as part of the expedition Tracking dolphins in the Adriatic Sea.

Once again we got caught in the heat wave. But this didn’t stop our team. We always headed out to fieldwork enthusiastically, once even at 5 o’clock in the morning. Thank you Chantel, John, Pat, Richard in Therese!

Vročina nas ne ustavi

Konec julija smo uspešno zaključili že tretjo raziskovalno odpravo v sodelovanju med društvom Morigenos in inštitutom Earthwatch v okviru programa Tracking dolphins in the Adriatic Sea.

Hvala Chantel, John, Pat, Richard in Therese!

Another successful Dolphin Day

Last Saturday, 25th of July, the 9th Dolphin Day took place in Piran. People of all ages came to visit the event from all over Slovenia.

Our info-point at Tartini Square was very lively during the whole day. Visitors had a lot of questions about dolphins and the Slovenian sea in general. Morigenos gained a few new supportive members and through the campaign "Adopt a dolphin" our dolphins got a few new “godfathers” and “godmothers” to support Morigenos.

Children had great fun with the workshops we prepared for them where they could drew and paint dolphins of all kinds. We also received good feedback for the two exhibitions we prepared on Tartini Square. Visitors enjoyed the lectures we gave about our research work and the interesting facts about dolphins of the Slovenian sea, organized on two boat trips with the boat Solinarka. This year we also organized visits to the Piran bell tower where Morigenos researchers presented the land based research procedures in short lectures.

In the evening we offered our visitors a great rock concert performed by the bands Charlie Butter Fly from Kočevje and the Eclipse of Time from neighbouring Croatia.

As a special guest we invited Klemen Bunderla to join us at the event. He also became a godfather to one of our dolphins – for one year Kai will keep him company.

Tudi letošnji dan delfinov navdušil

Preteklo soboto, 25. 7., se je na 9. Dnevu delfinov v Piranu z nami zabavala in izobraževala pisana druščina najmlajših, mladih in malo manj mladih z vseh koncev Slovenije.
